| | A few days ago I was feeding babygirl oatmeal when I felt something scraping the bowl of the spoon. I opened her mouth and saw two tiny teeth buds, like two grains of sand.
I can only imagine what baby A's perspective is on all this: I'm eating dinner when suddenly my head is pushed back, mommy pries my mouth open, and then she starts screeching, "Teeeeeeeeeth! My baby has teeeeeeeeeth!" And then she splits open that little black cube that she never lets me play with and starts screaming into it, "D, honey, guess what? Our baby has teeth! Teeeeeeeeth!" I'm not sure what teeeeeeeeth are, but they sound frightening.
For the past week, my gums have felt sore and then finally they broke out in these tiny hard white pebbles. I'm trying to figure out how to get rid of them, but I can't figure out what they are. Mommy and daddy have things in their mouth too, but they are huge and yellow and cannot possibly be the same thing as the little white pearls in my mouth.
In addition to growing teeth, babygirl is also developing a bad case of stranger anxiety. Any man who is not a member of her gene pool elicits a loud wail upon approach. Only D, her uncles, and cousins are spared the sound of her stranger danger siren. In fact, she loves her daddy so much that I
make D hide whenever I feed her because if she sees or hears him, she
pulls off and tries to get up to look for him.
Their close and loving relationship is satisfying in several ways. One is that I have finally found someone who can give D a taste of his own medicine. Now that babygirl has started on solids, she produces these piebald poos (carrot-orange and brown if you must know) that are rather stinky. D was changing her diaper this afternoon and she must not have been finished pooing because as he wiped her down she began to extrude a little spotted poo, which finished in a sonorous but malodorous fart. Right in D's face.
As you all know, D is a prolific and shameless farter, who has remorselessly subjected me and our friends to his violent flatulence. He had never met his match until now. Until today. God love you, little girl, God love you. |
